Nominate a Green Patch Organization before August 15
At the co-op, you receive a green patch every time you use a reusable shopping bag for your groceries. The more reusable bags you fill, the more green patches you receive. Every green patch is worth 5 cents. Although shoppers have the option of collecting 20 green patches to save a dollar on future purchases, most of our customers choose to donate them. The total green patch amount is tallied and donated to two local, environmentally focused organizations chosen by the members of the co-op. Green patch donations add up to $3000 a year on average!
Linden Hills Co-op is currently seeking new applicants for this year’s “green groups”! Any co-op shopper is welcome to nominate an organization to be a recipient of green patch donations, but only LHC members are allowed to vote for the two organizations that will be chosen for next year’s donation.
Linden Hills Co-op and our shoppers are always eager to support new organizations doing great work in our community. If you have an organization in mind, download a nomination form here or pick one up at the customer service desk . We can't wait to hear from you! All applications are due back to the co-op no later than August 15th.
This fiscal year, our green groups are Fruits of the City and Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy.
Fruits of the City increases access to healthy foods by ‘gleaning’ from backyard fruit trees and regional orchards to collect food otherwise going to waste and distribute it to over 30 local food shelves. In 2013, they organized over 530 volunteers to harvest and deliver over 127,000 pounds of local fruit for those in need.
Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy educates and empowers people to take part in climate solutions through climate literacy, citizen engagement and international cooperation. Climate Generation works with students of all ages by promoting student leadership on solutions to climate change as well as providing curriculums and resources for K-12 educators. In addition, they work collaboratively with local, state and national decision makers to design and promote sound energy policy.
