Detox Regimen Review

Written By Emily Kaster, LHC Wellness Manager

What is Detox?

Detoxification is a natural process our bodies go through to clean our unwanted materials and/or toxins. It is a primary function of the body, and is constantly taking place and interacting with all functions of the body. If you decide to go through a detox program, this will aid and improve your body’s naturally occurring detox process.

Why Detox?

The Center for Disease Control has studied the toxic load people carry in their bodies and have found 212 environmental chemicals in our blood and urine. This toxic load can at times be too much for our bodies to handle, and our systems need a little help and support.

Foods

It’s important to eat a whole foods diet which essentially removes all the sugary, processed, artificial foods from the diet.

Detox power foods

Alliums (garlic, onions, scallions) are full of sulfurous compounds which are really good for our livers.  Garlic is particularly powerful because it gives our immune system a boost while helping out the liver.

Cruciferous Vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, watercress) are extremely high in phyto-nutrients that support your body’s different detox phases.

Citrus (lemon, lime, grapefruit) helps flush toxins from your body.  Lemon juice is a natural diuretic, and also promotes the production of bile, which aides in the digestion process.

Ginger stimulates digestion and circulation and helps cleanse the waste build-up from the colon, liver and other organs.

Turmeric is in the same family as ginger, and also happens to be a great detox agent.  Turmeric helps your liver expel toxins and, like lemon, promotes the production of bile.
