Gifts in a Jar!

A Twist on Hot Chocolate

Use a pint jar to make 4 cups of hot cocoa. Mixes can be combined with milk, a milk alternative, or water.

Tip: The co-op now carries Dandie's Vegan Peppermint Marshmallows! Pair these with any flavor of hot chocolate for a tasty gift!

White Chocolate Lavender

White chocolate (chips or bar)

3 tablespoons dried lavender

Fill the jar two thirds of the way full with smashed white chocolate chucks or white chocolate chips. Top off with dried lavender.

Tip: Lavendar is naturally calming. Gift this mix with a candle and cozy socks.

Aztec

Two rounds of Taza dark chocolate, chopped

1 teaspoon cayenne

2 cinnamon sticks

Combine all the ingredients in a pint jar, and you're good to go.

Tip: Purchase spicy dark chocolate and skip the cayenne! Add a whole dried red chili pepper for garnish.

Hot Buttered Rum Mix

One stick of salted butter (melted until pourable)

1 and 1/2 cups brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Combine dry ingredients, and then mix in butter. Refridgerate until ready to use. Mix with dark rum and hot water, about one tablespoon of mix per glass.

Tip: Pair this gift with a bottle of dark rum and a festive cocktail glass!

Flavored Salts

This gift is great for the foodie on your list! A little goes a long way, so get creative with what kind of jars you use! Try 4 oz jam jars or smaller decorative ones.

Roasted Garlic Salt

1 head of garlic

1 cup of salt of choice

Drizzle head of garlic with olive oil and wrap in tinfoil. Bake garlic for 30 - 40 minutes at 400 degrees until garlic is soft. Remove from oven and let cool. Once cooled, squeeze out the roasted garlic and stir in to the salt. Using a fork or your fingers, gently mix the salt and garlic in a shallow oven-proof glass dish. Break up salt to avoid clumps. Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Bake salt to dry it out for about 20 - 30 minutes. Stir occasionally as to not burn the garlic. Once the moisture has been removed and salt has cooled, use a fork to break up any remaining clumps and pour in to jar.

Tip: Pair this gift with a fresh Rustica baguette and a local brie cheese for a fun host gift!  Who doesn't love cheesy garlic bread?

Meyer Lemon Salt

3 lemons (preferably Meyer)

1 cup salt of choice

Zest lemons into a shallow oven-proof dish. Mix it salt and add juice of 1 lemon. Using a fork or your fingers, gently mix the salt and garlic in a shallow oven-proof glass dish. Break up salt to avoid clumps. Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Spread salt evenly in pan and bake for 20 - 25 minutes. Once cooled, use a fork to break up any remaining clumps and pour in to jar.

Tip: This salt is delicious on fish or chicken! Write a recipe card that incorporates this salt and tie it to your jar for a more personal gift!

Personal Care Gifts

Coffee Scrub

The ground coffee in this scrub does wonders for skin, the caffeine naturally tightens skin and eliminates unwanted oils, while the coconut oil moisturizes skin. The combination of all these ingredients smells good enough to drink! This scrub is meant to be used in the shower, but be mindful of too many coffee grounds going down the drain.

1 cup coffee grounds (recycled grounds work just fine!)

1 cup coconut oil

1/2 cup coarse brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

If the coconut oil is solid, melt it over low heat until it’s translucent. While coconut oil is melting, combine dry ingredients in a bowl until evenly mixed. Add coconut oil and spoon your scrub into jars or containers of choice and make sure they have an airtight lid.

Tip: Pair this scrub with local organic coffee beans and a fun travel mug for the coffee lover on your list!

Lemon Herb Salt Scrub

1/2 cup epsom salt or coarse salt crystals

2 tablespoons of olive oil

Juice of one lemon or lime

Fresh herb of choice (optional; try lavender or rosemary)

First combine the salt and olive oil, then add lemon juice.  Add herbs if using and and pour in to a jar!

Tip: Make a self care package that includes this scrub, some calming essential oils, lotion or a lip balm and a nice hand towel or wash cloth.
